Before initiating the setup, carefully inspect the box and device. Ledger hardware wallets come sealed but do not contain recovery phrases or pre-written security information. If a recovery seed is provided in the package or appears pre-filled, the device has been tampered with and must not be used.
Each new Ledger should feel durable, unmodified, and free of any suspicious additions. Ledger never asks for your recovery phrase at the time of purchase, and the device should always prompt you to generate the phrase during setup.
